Ability to procreate and regenerate. Fertility. Birth of a new life. Anticipation and expectation. A cycle. The laws of nature and of the entire Creation. Desire of all living organisms to propagate life. Rebirth. Metamorphoses of forms and phenomena. Each of these notions in itself is capacious and so full of meanings that commas seem to be out of place.

This collection is a hymn to life, beauty, femininity, the latter being impossible without masculinity. The canvases are saturated with sensuality in various guises, sometimes it is a passion bordering on aggression, sometimes tenderness and awe. Erotic motives are interlaced with philosophical pursuits, ‘sweet’ works contrast with deep and meaningful ones, sometimes suffered through one’s own experience which may not be just artistic but could stem from life itself.  

The main symbol of the collection is of course the Sun, driving force, the source of life’s energy. Dynamics and moving composition are inherent in all works.

Yin-Yang, interaction of feminine and masculine principles is a very important subject of my works belonging to this cycle. The play of contrasts, including deliberate use of artistic techniques of contradistinctions, when cold is opposed to warm, shade to light, textured canvas surface to a smooth one, clear sonorous sound to a muffled grey in the background, a pasty brush stroke to a transparent glaze, dark to light, minuteness and explicitness to blurred and stylized shapes. 

Without shadow we would never be able to know the joy of light. Without white colour (a complete absence of colour) we would know nothing about the rainbow of colour. Without darkness we would not find out the light. Creativity becomes art when a conflict and tension arise within it. Here the memory serves symbols and images from Mikhail Bulgakov’s “The Master and Margarita”. The artist, creator of imagination lives by his own inner Heaven and Hell, deciding on his own whom to give primacy and sing laudatory ode to!
